The aim of JobAgri, coordinated by the ILO, is to fill the knowledge gap on the capacity of the agri-food sector to provide decent jobs, in order to inform policy dialogue on these issues. Indeed, in Ghana, as in many African countries, the capacity of the agri-food sector to provide productive, decent jobs with attractive working conditions is critical. But there is little information available on the type of farms and value chain organization models that are most likely to provide quality jobs.
The project thus rests on two pillars: policy dialogue and the production of new knowledge. ÁùºÏ²Êͼ¿â and its Ghanaian partner the Institute for Statistics, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) are in charge of coordinating this 2nd component.
The official launch of the project provided an opportunity to inaugurate the multi-stakeholder forum, whose objectives are to contribute to the methodology for producing new knowledge, discuss the results and draw up recommendations for generating productive and decent jobs in the agri-food sector. Last June, consultations with national stakeholders had already identified the Bono-East region and the maize value chain as a particularly relevant case study. The forum, now officially launched, brings together the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ghana Employers' Association (GEA), National Youth Authority, Ghana Statistical Services (GSS), Farmer Organisation Network of Ghana (FONG) and Peasant Farmer Association of Ghana (PFAG).
