Sociology, process engineering, water science, computer modelling, anthropology, hydrogeology, agronomy, ecology, and so on… How can we practise interdisciplinarity with a view to building engaged research on water and its role in society? A book (in French) published by Editions Quae, "Récits de recherche sur l’eau dans un monde interdisciplinaire", gives an answer in the form of eleven eyewitness accounts from researchers.

Their accounts provide a concrete illustration of interdisciplinarity practices and bear witness to positive or uncomfortable situations the scientists have experienced, and the solutions rolled out to cope with the unexpected aspects of such practices.

The book proposes new ways of working on water, and suggests explaining the relations society has with it, focusing on a number of major issues: pollution, groundwater salinization, and ecological restoration, technological optimism, in various world regions.

Over and above the specificities of each situation experienced, these accounts stress the transverse aspects of working in an interdisciplinary way, as regards both individual and collective experiences: scientists' identity and engagement in society, research objectives, and mutual learning, which makes it easier to overcome the barriers between disciplines.

The book is particularly intended for scientists and for students embarking on or planning to embark on interdisciplinary research.
